Legion Supports Aboriginal Awareness Week

Ottawa, ON, 26 May 2016– The Royal Canadian Legion acknowledged Aboriginal Canadian Veterans by participating Aboriginal Awareness Week (AAW) day in the main concourse in the MGen. George R. Pearkes Building, 101 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa earlier today.

“Time and again, Aboriginal Canadians have answered this nation’s call and served in Canada’s military during both conflict and in peacetime at home and overseas,” says Royal Canadian Legion Dominion President, Tom Eagles. “Today, we pay tribute to their proud and rich military heritage and share our own appreciation for their commitment to help shape the future of Canada’s largest Veterans not-for-profit organization,” adds Eagles.

Background:

The AAW event is part of a larger Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat (AAS) initiative, in conjunction with Parks Canada, the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces to recognize Aboriginals in the public service – including military and Royal Canadian Mounted Police service.
