The Royal Canadian Legion and the Calgary Grey Cup Committee (CGGC) once again joined forces during the 112th Grey Cup Festival to honour Canada’s Veterans and share Calgary’s signature Western hospitality. The 3rd Annual Stampede Breakfast brought together Grey Cup fans, local dignitaries, Legion members, and volunteers for an afternoon of food, entertainment, and Remembrance.
Since 1948, the Calgary Grey Cup Committee has been an integral part of Grey Cup celebrations across the country, carrying the spirit of the Calgary Stampede and the City of Calgary from coast to coast. This year, the committee continued this long-standing tradition while partnering with the Legion to highlight its vital work supporting Veterans, serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, and their families.
Hosted at Henderson Highway Branch 215, the Stampede Breakfast featured authentic Calgary Stampede griddles serving up pancakes and sausage to an eager crowd ready to experience Western hospitality. More than 40 volunteers helped deliver a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Smiles spread throughout the room as Western-style clowns mingled with attendees, while beloved mascot Charlie Horse rallied the crowd with a resounding “YA-HOO!” A special performance by local Indigenous dancers added a meaningful cultural highlight to the afternoon.
The celebration also included the traditional White Hat Ceremony, honouring two Veterans, Ted Nimik and Lieutenant Colonel Robert Wuskynyk, who were symbolically white-hatted by Councillor McLean.
Outside Branch 215, the CGGC’s famous equine friend Tuffy Nuff made a memorable appearance. Tuffy greeted guests, posed for photos, and helped spread Western cheer throughout the afternoon.
The Legion and the Calgary Grey Cup Committee are proud to continue their partnership in supporting and honouring Canada’s Veterans. The 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast was a resounding success, bringing together Canadians from all walks of life to celebrate tradition, community, and the importance of Remembrance.
As we look ahead, both organizations are excited to continue this tradition and will come together once again for the 113th Grey Cup in Calgary in 2026, a milestone year marking the Legion’s centenary. We look forward to more meaningful events in the years to come.
SEE EVERYONE IN CALGARY!
