Sharon McKeown
Dominion Vice-President
Sharon McKeown is Chair of the Dominion Command Membership Committee and a member of other committees including Poppy and Remembrance, and the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League. She is also the Dominion representative for the western USA Zone, and a director on the board of Canvet Publications.
- Dominion Vice-President from 2021-2024, Past Chair and Vice-Chair of Public Relations Committee, and past member of other Dominion Command Committees including Membership.
- Past President of Ontario Command (2017-2019)
- Joined Branch 136 Milton, ON in 1981. Served in a variety of roles including 9 years as branch President. Was Zone B-7 Commander (2001-2003), District B Commander (2009-2011).
- Chair of the District B Hospital Trust Fund, serves on the Tri-District Hospital Committee, President of Branch 136 Ladies Auxiliary, member of Hugh Farthing TVS and OSI Special Section.
- Ontario Command, Vice-President (2011-2017), member of all Provincial Committees, Cadet Liaison, Chair of Membership, Resolutions, and Property. Currently, Vice-Chair of Veterans, Service and Seniors. Kicked off Legion Riders program and introduced Ontario Command’s ‘Operation Service Dog’.
- Past Member of Dominion Command Membership Committee and Vice-Chair of Public Relations Committee.
- Awarded Life Membership by Branch 136 in 2002, Meritorious Service Medal by Zone B-7 in 2010, and the Palm Leaf to MSM by District B in 2017. Received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by Ontario Command in 2012.
- Awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers by the Governor General of Canada in 2018.
- Received Certificate of Appreciation from Canadian Cancer Society as a founding organizer of the Ladies Drive 4 Cancer, and her work with Golfing 4 Cancer. Other Volunteer activities involved serving on municipal committees, leadership roles in scouts/guides, girls/ladies’ softball, and helping the Milton Lions Club.
- Education includes Fellowship to the Insurance Institute of Canada – Management Major, LUATC, Dale Carnegie accounting, and numerous industry-related courses.
- Retired after over 35 years in the Insurance industry, with positions in sales, service, claims adjusting and management.
- Sharon and husband Bill moved to Milton in 1975. Their home is an 1870’s ‘station house’, affectionately called the ‘money pit’. They have two children, two grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-grandson. Daughter Tracey is a dual member, grandson Liam is a proud 4th generation Legionnaire.
