Dominion Convention

The Royal Canadian Legion’s major governing forum is its biennual Dominion Convention. All members of the organization are represented by delegates who vote on resolutions and determine national policies as well as the organization’s overall direction. The election of the Dominion President and members of the Senior Elected Officers, positions held for two years, is conducted at Dominion Convention.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update: Dominion Convention rescheduled to August 2021

In light of the pandemic and related public health concerns, the Dominion Executive Council, with the unanimous support of all Provincial Commands, voted to reschedule the 2020 Dominion Convention planned for August in Saskatoon. Dominion Convention is rescheduled for August 12–19, 2021 in Saskatoon. Further updates on the Convention will be sent to all Branches at a later date.

April 20, 2020 - Message from the Dominion President

Dear Friends and Comrades,

On behalf of our entire Dominion Executive Council (DEC) team, I am sharing The Royal Canadian Legion’s decision to reschedule its 2020 Dominion Convention to 2021. This significant decision was inevitable in light of the risks and health recommendations tied to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all our delegates.

Moving the Convention to next year will not affect the city or venue location. The event will take place in Saskatoon, SK from August 12 to 19, 2021. Venue and planning costs will simply be transferred to cover next year’s meeting.

All current business will be moved to the 2021 Convention. In the interim, any decisions on select resolutions pertaining to ongoing issues will be made by our DEC, and we will inform you of any outcomes. Members who hold Dominion elected positions will have their terms extended to 2021.

There should be no direct conflict with Provincial/Territorial Conventions, but Commands will determine what operational changes may be required. We understand this situation may create logistical and other challenges for you, and we apologize for this unfortunate reality.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. We look forward to working with you over the coming year, and seeing you in 2021.

Remain safe and well,

Thomas D. Irvine, CD
