Since 1960, Canadian school children from coast to coast to coast have honoured Canada’s Veterans through creative art and writing by participating in The Royal Canadian Legion’s longstanding annual Poster and Literary Contests.

About the Contests
Each year, more than 100,000 youth participate in the Legion’s Poster and Literary Contests to learn about and honour the tradition of Remembrance.
The contests are organized by Legion branches with schools in their area. The winning entries progress through various levels at the Legion with the final entries being forwarded to Legion national headquarters in Ottawa where they are judged and the national winners declared.
The winning entries for each category at the national level are displayed at the Canadian War Museum from July 1 to May 1 of the following year. For the Poster Contest, the second place winners, and those receiving an honourable mention, are displayed at various sites on Parliament Hill during the Remembrance period in November.
The Legion sponsors a trip to Ottawa for the senior winners in the four contests to attend the National Remembrance Day Ceremony. There, the winners will place a wreath on behalf of the Youth of Canada as well as have an opportunity to attend a luncheon and meet with the Governor General.
