Ontario Legionnaire wins big: a 2017 VIA Rail trip for two

Jun 6, 2017

The Legion is grateful to our members for their dedication and support, and we expressed our appreciation by once again offering them a chance to win a return trip for two aboard the legendary VIA Rail Canadian train. Our latest contest ran from December 15, 2016 through March 31, 2017, and we were delighted to receive close to 3,700 entries from Legionnaires across the country.

We congratulate this year’s winner – Susen Buchanan of Elmira, Ont.  She, along with her husband Bruce, is a member of Elmira Branch 469. We hope both of them enjoy this wonderful trip aboard VIA Rail.

“I was thrilled when I received the call that I had won the trip,” Susen says.  She and Bruce joined the Legion 12 years ago to support their Branch and help with the annual Poppy Campaign. Today they are proud to be members of an organization that helps Canada honour, support and remember Canada’s Veterans.

For Susen, being a Legionnaire means “being a part of an organization that not only talks about supporting Veterans but takes action in many ways, from being an advocate for Veterans, to helping homeless Veterans off the street, to offering many other services to give them the support that they need.”

Susen, Bruce, and all our other members are our lifeblood. It is because of them that we can offer such tremendous programs and services to Canada’s Veterans and their families. We also are grateful to VIA Rail for once again donating this trip and for supporting the Legion in many other ways.

To Susen and Bruce Buchanan – Bon voyage! We hope you both have a great time exploring our magnificent country.
