Dec 12, 2016
OTTAWA, October 19th, 2016 – The Royal Canadian Legion Legion presented His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Patron of The Royal Canadian Legion, with the symbolic First Poppy at Rideau Hall earlier today.

This annual event sets the stage for the Legion’s Poppy Campaign which will be held between October 28th and November 11th, 2016.

“Last year, through our collective efforts, legionnaires everywhere distributed more than 21 million Poppies and supporting materials. From the 2014 campaign financial statements, $17million was distributed across Canada to Veterans in need,” says Royal Canadian Legion, Dominion President, Dave Flannigan.

“The Legion’s Poppy and Remembrance Program is our way to perpetuate the memory and deeds of the Fallen and I invite all 36 million Canadians to support this program again this year and wear a Poppy with pride,” adds Flannigan.
