Legion Rolls Out the Welcome Mat

Feb 16, 2016

OTTAWA, ON, February 26th 2015 – The Dominion Executive Council of the Royal Canadian Legion re-affirmed its commitment to roll out the welcome mat to Canada’s Veterans as well as the Canadian public during a Council Meeting held at Legion House between 20 and 22 February 2015.

“The Royal Canadian Legion was formed by Veterans for Veterans and there is not a Veteran, male or female, in this country who has not received some support and benefit through The Royal Canadian Legion,” says Dominion President Tom Eagles. “But the Legion has become more than this. Over the years, it has expanded its reach into virtually every community. Our Veterans have been in the forefront of building our Nation, just as the Legion has been the cornerstone of our communities,” adds Eagles.

Seen from this perspective, the Council reaffirmed the Legion’s policy to welcome any Veteran with a valid I.D. indicating their service in the Canadian Armed Forces or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police into our Legion branches as a guest. Our Veterans continue to serve our Nation and we are there to serve them.

DEC also reaffirmed its belief that all Canadians are welcome to visit any Legion branch and share in the comradeship, the stories and show their support for our Veterans. Any Canadian can become a member of the Legion as well. This is the Legion’s legacy; close to 90 years of service.

“Rolling out the welcoming mat at our Legion branches is the first step in recognizing that it is the obligation of every Legion member to encourage all Canadians to join our ranks6 and, by doing so, we will be doing our part to ensure the future of our Legion,” states Eagles.
