Legion Launches Operation Santa Claus

OTTAWA, ON, December 10th 2014 – The Royal Canadian Legion has packaged up more than 1,000 Christmas gifts that will be delivered to Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP personnel deployed overseas in the days leading up to Christmas.

“The Legion has a long-standing tradition of sending a package to our Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP members who are deployed overseas during the Christmas Season as well as on Canada Day,” says Dominion President of The Royal Canadian Legion, Mr. Tom Eagles. “It’s a little gift but it means a lot, and it continues our tradition, dating back to WWII, of letting those serving away from home know that we are thinking of them on these special occasions” adds Eagles.

Operation Santa ContentsThis year’s package, entitled “A Taste of Home” includes:

  • Dulse;
  • Tim Horton’s Coffee packages;
  • Popcorn packages;
  • Kerr’s maple candies;
  • Beef jerky;
  • Playing cards;
  • Compact mirror;
  • Legion pens; and
  • Legion key chain.

“On behalf of the more than 300,000 men and women of the Legion, we wish all deployed troops a joyous holiday and that they return to their loved ones safe and sound,” adds Eagles.
