Legion members make a real difference in the lives of Veterans and across communities. Find out how.
The Royal Canadian Legion, with nearly 270,000 Legion members in 1,400 branches across the country, encompasses a diverse group of individuals.
Some are serving or retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Others have a close affiliation with the military, such as through a family member. Many are just regular Canadians hoping to make a difference.
But there is one constant among all of them: A desire to support the men and women who have served Canada.
Thinking about joining a cause that matters? Here’s why you should consider the Legion.
Why Legion Membership Matters
Your membership means we can support Veterans and their families
The Legion is a democratic, non-partisan, member-based organization. Without our members, the tremendous programs and services the Legion provides to Canada’s Veterans and their families would disappear.
Your membership helps us help thousands of Veterans every year by:
This is just one story of RCMP Officer Jagdeep Soin, whose life turned around after coming to the Legion for help with his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
You are Remembering the Fallen
Our members understand the importance of honouring past sacrifices and acknowledging the courage of those who served and still serve today.
Our members help us put on many important initiatives across the country that remind us to take time to Remember.
These include:
When you become a member, you help Canadians honour and remember Canada’s Veterans.
You are honouring a loved one
Many Legion members are the mothers and fathers, wives and husbands, sons and daughters, grandchildren, and friends of Veterans.
These individuals see the impact of the issues affecting our Veterans and the care they desperately need. Through the Legion,
Veterans can get the help and support they deserve.
The Legion is also responsible for many Remembrance initiatives across the country, including the
National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa. These activities help to ensure Canadians never forget.
A Legion membership means you’re honouring your loved ones by actively supporting their needs and honouring their memory.
You are making a difference in your community
Legion Branches are the cornerstone of communities across Canada, and provide one of the largest volunteer bases in the country. Our member volunteers provide local services and supports to build a stronger Canada.
Whether it’s helping local Veterans, supporting seniors, providing youth sports programs, raising funds for community initiatives and Veterans in need, or putting on events for fun and celebration at their branch,
member volunteers make a difference in their community.
You are helping shape the direction of the Legion
Members have the opportunity to add their voice to our advocacy efforts and the future of The Royal Canadian Legion.
Our policies and positions are determined through a
member-driven resolution process that invites all members to bring forward issues, opportunities and solutions to their Branch. Resolutions may then be brought forward for provincial or national consideration.
We encourage currently serving and retired Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP members who have not yet joined the Legion, to add their voice and strengthen the organization with a free one-year Legion membership as part of our
Veteran Welcome Program.
Ready to join?
Any Canadian above the age of 18 can become a member! We encourage all Canadians, whether they have served or not, to help us help Veterans and their families, promote Remembrance and make a difference in their communities.
