Allied Veterans

The Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command coordinates all applications originating in Canada to the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League (RCEL) in the UK on the behalf of allied Veterans.

Financial assistance may be available for Allied Veterans and their widows from the UK and there are several programs that may assist.

The first are grants that help to provide for food, clothing, medical or dental treatment, mobility devices, and minor home repair. Needs must be supported by written estimates. Paid accounts are not usually considered nor are ongoing costs. The funds are generally reserved for Veterans and their spouses in need, who suffer misfortune, encounter an emergency or are seriously disadvantaged.

The second is called a Regular Financial Assistance (RFA) Award or Regular Charitable Payment (RCP). If you are having difficulty making ends meet on an ongoing basis you may also be considered for this award which is paid in quarterly instalments. It exists to help former UK Veterans or their widows to meet day-to-day living costs. To obtain an application or additional information, please contact Gary Foster of the Dominion Command Service Bureau toll free at 1-877-534-4666 or via email to servicebureau@legion.ca.

Allied Veterans should also be aware that since 2010 they may also qualify for assistance through Veterans Affairs Canada’s (VAC) Allied Veterans Services and Benefits program. Further information on this can be obtained by calling VAC at 1-866-522-2122 or by visiting the VAC website.
