To organize and implement Dominion Member Sports Championships for Regular and Senior Curling, Darts and Cribbage; to ensure that the rules for each championship are in place and are current; and to investigate the possibility of including other sports in the program.
The program involves a large segment of the Legion membership through play-offs at the branch, zone, district and provincial command level; the provincial command winners compete at the Dominion Championship. It promotes Legion comradeship and sportsmanship by bringing together members from every branch of the Legion. The sporting events help keep members active physically and involves many members in organizing and administering the events. The championships generate public relations for the host branch through local media coverage, and in many instances, direct involvement by the community at large.
The program is the responsibility of the Dominion Command Sports Committee. The committee determines the location of Dominion Championships and reports to the Dominion Executive Council for approval of policy.
After considering hosting offers from interested branches, the committee selects the location of events. It provides direct assistance to host branches, and instruction and guidance through a Sports Guide which is updated periodically.
