The Legion Canadian Youth Track & Field Championships now combines the Legion under 15 (U15) and under 17 (U17) programs with an open concept in both categories. Provincial commands will still send teams to compete in the U15 and U17 categories, but eligible additional athletes may compete in the U15 and U17 categories. In 2010 an additional 500 athletes competed in the open category vying for the right to hold the title of Canadian Champion in their respective event(s).
Technical information and registration packages for The Legion Canadian Youth Athletic Championships will be available by the mid May. Registration for the Championships will begin in May. Athletes who wish to take advantage of the Legion team program should contact their local branch or applicable Provincial Command office. Those who wish to compete as an open athlete will have to register through Athletics Canada.
This event is nationally sanctioned by Athletics Canada and many Canadian track and field stars who have participated in the Legion program have gone on to world and Olympic glory. Approximately 80% of Canada's national track and field team have participated in the Legion program.
