Ottawa –The Royal Canadian Legion has named the National Silver (Memorial) Cross Mother for 2011. Mrs. Patricia (Patty) Elaine Braun (pronounced Brown) will serve in that capacity until her successor is named in November of next year. She is originally from Semans, Sask.
Mrs. Braun lost her son, Corporal David Braun, to a suicide bomber in Kandahar, Afghanistan on 22 August, 2006. Both biographies are attached.
She will lay a wreath at the National War Memorial on 11 November 2011 on behalf of all mothers who have lost sons or daughters in the military, para-military or the RCMP in the service of Canada.

Mrs. Patricia (Patty) Elaine Braun of Raymore, Sask., has been named by The Royal Canadian Legion as the National Memorial (Silver) Cross Mother for a year. Mrs. Braun is originally from Semans, Sask. She graduated from Margaret McClumb School in Semans, Sask., and the University of Saskatchewan. She is employed by Horizon School Division at Raymore School in Raymore, Sask. Her husband, Blaine Braun, passed away in March 1994. Her son, Corporal David Braun, was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in 2006. He has one sister, Daina, and two brothers, Christopher and Michael.

Corporal David Robert William Braun
Corporal David Braun was killed by a suicide bomber while on patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan, on 22 August, 2006. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based out of Shilo, Man. Born in 1979, he graduated from Raymore School and worked at Westland Rec-Creation in Watson, Sask. He joined the Canadian Forces in February 2002 and has one daughter.
