Legion President comments on announcement
by Veterans Affairs Minister

“The Royal Canadian Legion cares for all veterans of all ages, and their families,” says Patricia Varga its Dominion President. Her comment comes in response to the announcement of increased funding for veterans made yesterday.

We view the improvements that have been announced today as incremental steps in implementing the blueprint that has been forwarded to the Minister Veterans Affairs and to the government in the recommendations of the New Veterans Charter Advisory Group and the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs,” she continued. The Legion considers anyone who serves or has served in the military to be a veteran.

The recommendations made by them recognize the fact that the New Veterans Charter comprises a family of interrelated programs. The improvements that will be introduced through legislation amendments in the fall are considered by the Legion to be very important for all veterans and their families.

The allocation of an additional $2 billion dollars indicates the first stage of the renewal of Canada’s commitment to improve benefits for veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much.

“We anxiously await the anticipated additional announcements” she says.
